Olunga, who joined Kashiwa on August Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga on Saturday scored three goals in a Japanese second division league match featuring his side Kashiwa Reysol, against Renofa Yamaguchi.
Olunga scored in the 3rd, 61st and 92nd minute to aid his side to a resounding 4-1 win in a match played at the Hitachi Kashiwa Stadium. Brazilian Cristiano scored Reysol's other goal in the 69th minute while Ryoma Ishida managed to pull one back for the visitors in the 65th minute.
Olunga has now scored 11 goals for Kashiwa this season. He is the team’s top scorer. The league’s top scorer is Lee Yong-Jae of Yokahama with 16 goals. Ryukyu’s Koji Suzuki has found the back of the net 15 times, two players have scored 14 goals each, three players have scored 12 goals each while Olunga is in the company of two other players who have scored 11 goals each.
With over ten matches to go before the end of the season, Olunga is firmly and steadily in the race to become top scorer. Kashiwa Reysol lead the Japan Division two league standings with 55 points after 27 rounds of matches. Kyoto is second with 51 points after the same number of matches as the race for promotion to first division league hots up.
